Former international Timo Werner has no future in Leipzig. There were inquiries from some clubs. A change is now off the table.
Even if he is currently not playing a role at RB Leipzig, the interest in Timo Werner is still great: when the ex-DFB player entered the training ground on Tuesday, the cheering “Bild” was great. Around 400 fans had come, some shouted “Timo-Werner football god”. The 28-year-old wrote autographs and was ready for photos.
Apparently this could remain so, because according to the newspaper, the striker will fulfill his contract with the Saxons until 2026 – despite some offers. According to information from the “Bild”, there was concrete interest, including Premier League clubs such as FC Burnley and promoted Leeds United. There were also apparently inquiries from Italy, France, Saudi Arabia and Turkey. There was also an offer from the New York Red Bulls that would have included a contract for two and a half years. However, Werner decided to switch to the MLS.
Werner had emphasized several times in the past that England was actually considered a desired destination. Most recently he was loaned to Tottenham Hotspur and repeatedly spoke positive about the Premier League. Nevertheless, the striker should prefer to complete his contract in Leipzig.
Werner is no longer a role in terms of sport. According to the report, it was communicated internally that the offensive player is no longer planned. The high salary – around ten million euros per year – would apparently like to save the Saxons.
During Tuesday training, Werner was divided separately in the final part. Together with Lukas Klostermann, Kevin Kampl, Eljif Elmas as well as the convalescent talent Tiiam Gomis and Andrija Maksimovic, he completed individual running units away from the team.
