False start threatens

Werder Bremen presented four new additions this summer, of which only Samuel Mbangula is a commitment. According to a report by the “Sport Bild”, the 21 -year -old Belgian will also remain the only one, because due to the financial situation, only borrowing is due on the Weser. This makes the task of those responsible on the transfer market, because due to the misery of injuries, the club urgently needs new players.
In defense with newcomer Maximilian Wöber, Amos Pieper, Olivier Deman and Mitchell, four professionals are missing in the long term. At the weekend against Bayer Leverkusen, Captain Marco Friedl and Julián Malatini are also on the brink – more than half of all defenders could be. Newcomer Yukinari Sugawara will probably be in the starting eleven against the runner -up, since he is the only fit with Felix Agu. In central defense, 18-year-old Karim Coulibaly could start strongly alongside Niklas.
Werder Bremen could still strengthen the defensive outer lane with Isaac Schmidt from Leeds United. The Hanseatic League has agreed with the player for a long time and now that the promoted team has presented another full -back with James Justin, negotiations should take off. According to the English journalist Mike McGrath, the clubs talk about a deal. Leeds demands 3.5 million euros for a fixed transfer.

But Werder does not only need reinforcements in defense. In the Horst Steffen squad, after the departures of Marvin Ducksch and Oliver Burke with Keke Topp and Salim Musah, there are only two center forward. While Topp is looking for its shape, Musah comes from the U19 and is currently not an option. That is why Marco Grüll started in the first two competitive games in the storm center. According to the “Sport Bild”, you already had a successor for Ducksch on the Angel, but this should only be sold and not awarded.
There is also a need for action in the central midfield, because in addition to the set Senne Lynen, Jens Stage is missing indefinitely. Leonardo Bittencourt neither showed a good performance against Arminia Bielefeld nor against Eintracht Frankfurt and Skelly Alvero, who came from Olympique Lyon in 2024 for 4.8 million euros, is out. Kaan Cairinen was most recently traded by Sparta Prague for this position.
“We can only do what is in our budget,” said Clemens Fritz. The expenditure of EUR 10 million for Mbangula, which is paid to Juventus Turin in four installments, are compared to income of EUR 7.5 million. The Bremen purchase options secured the borrowing Sugawara, Wöber and Karl Hein. Romano Schmid, the most valuable Bremer, could still leave the club. According to “Sky”, West Ham United and Lille have deposited interest. The transfer window is open in Europe’s top leagues by Monday, after which Werder still has the opportunity to sign out of clubless players.
