This year, more than 3,000 swimmers from 81 different countries took part in the legendary open water competition in Bosporinsalmi. One of them never came to the finish line.

Svetšnikov, a native of Moscow, has a solid swimming background. He also runs his own swimming school. Therefore, his disappearance is considered special in Russia.

Svetšnikov’s disappearance was notified to the organizers and the Istanbul police immediately after the swim race. The search began on Sunday 24th August. at 4 pm local time and continued on Monday. The Coast Guard is included in the search.

The causes of the disappearance may include, for example, health problems or surprises caused by nature, such as severe sea currents.

The Bosporinsalmi open water swimming event was first held in 1989. This year, the race was held for the 37th time.

This is the world’s only open water swimming event that swims between two continents. The route is 6.5 kilometers long. Departure takes place from Asian side Kanlıcaand the race ends on the European side Kuruçeşme.

Participants should take a fitness test before the race and send the organizers a certificate of swimming skills.
