Bayern played big against Leipzig. This was also pleased with the honorary president and the sports director in the stands. There was an unexpected moment.

In the sovereign Bundesliga opening success of FC Bayern against RB Leipzig, a scene off the lawn triggered new conversation. In the stands there was a handshake between Uli Hoeneß and Max Eberl, who could be observed live on television.

The scene is at least interesting because the Honorary President of Munich had made the club decision only a few days ago that sports director Eberl could only borrow another offensive player – and not buy. According to the “Süddeutsche Zeitung”, this is said to have surprised the sporting management around Eberl, after all, the 51-year-old and his team adhered to all the specifications, saved salaries and reduced the squad. At the press conference on Friday, the sports director said: “We have to be creative now. It is honestly not an easy task on the market.”

The fact that Hoeneß and Eberl demonstratively shaked their hands in the 6-0 win against the Saxons was therefore like a message: there is cohesion at the bottom and the top of the club.

“He shakes my hand over to me and I liked to take it,” said Max Eberl after the game, “because it was 3-0 too. I don’t know what he wanted to signal. We were happy. It was just satisfaction.”

With the goal -rich opening victory, the German record champion was at least a sporty question of the quality in the attack: Harry Kane scored three times, Michael Olise twice and newcomer Luis Díaz contributed a goal. “Our offensive delivered,” Eberl said afterwards. “We set a fragrance brand.”

Nevertheless, the need for action remains: after several exits, the squad on the offensive is too narrow. Bavarians currently have only 14 experienced field players available. There are also talents like Lennart Karl or Jonah Kusi-Asare. Eberl is faced with the tricky task of still making a good loan business on the transfer market without a big shopping fee. “We still have ten days to realize things that we have in mind. That’s what it’s about,” said the 51-year-old.

Several players are currently offered to the record champions. “But we actively decide what we want to implement,” commented Eberl: “It’s not so easy. Now the phase is still a transfer to make money.” However, if the transfer period becomes scarce, “then something may happen.”

Even if he did not want to wait until the last day. But the loan player must already be a win for the squad. “If we do something, it should already have sense and mind,” said Eberl.
