Thomas Müller has just arrived at his new club in Vancouver. Now he is already getting support from Germany.

Sebastian Schonlau, ex-captain of Hamburger SV, is apparently about a change to the Vancouver Whitecaps. The “Bild” newspaper reports. According to this, the 31-year-old should make his way to Canada on Wednesday afternoon to sign a contract for a year and a half including an option for another year.

Schonlau would make ex-Bavaria star Thomas Müller teammate, who made his debut for the Canadian club last weekend. According to the report, Schonlau from HSV should even get a small severance payment for the change. A resolution of the working paper, which is actually still running by summer 2026, should have already been signed on the condition that the Vancouver change works. Schonlau is also said to have cleared his locker on Tuesday.

Schonlau is said to have long caught a change to Major League Soccer (MLS). Vancouver currently has injury worries in central defense and is therefore a good starting station for the defensive man.

Schonlau had been captain in Hamburg for four years, but no longer played a role in the planning of coach Merlin Polzin. In the first round of the DFB Cup, he was no longer in the squad. In Vancouver, Schonlau now gets the chance to play for a title candidate. The Whitecaps are currently in third place in the Western Conference. Already in the night of next Sunday, Schonlau could celebrate his debut for the club according to “Bild”. Then Vancouver plays against St. Louis.
