Second division soccer team Prussia Münster has terminated midfielder Marc Lorenz without notice and made a complaint against the ex-captain.

The club announced this on Tuesday evening. The background is concrete indications of irregularities related to donations. Until the end of the ongoing investigations, the association will not make any further statements on the process.

“As an important employer and ambassador in the region, SC Preussen Münster sees itself as responsibility, the integrity of the club, its values and the trust of the public to be fully maintained and protect itself,” said the press release.

Late transfer “due to illness”

Lorenz justified himself on social media on Tuesday evening and admitted that he had billed donations too late. “At the time of the termination, however, the open amount was already settled again. Accordingly, I was now very surprised that the association goes to the public ineffective,” wrote Lorenz.

The overall context includes that he has been in therapeutic treatment for a few weeks, the 37-year-old said: “I can only explain to myself that the funds were deliberately transferred. My mental illness put me to such a dimensions that I was completely unable to drive during this time and that necessary actions could not cause it in time. But I would never amazing donations for the good cause.”

Born in Münster Lorenz, already played for Münster in the youth. The 37-year-old was active for Prussia professionals from 2009 to 2011 and since 2022. Lorenz ran in 30 second division games for Münster in the previous season.
