It was already certain that Mainz 05 had to go to Scandinavia in the play-offs of the Conference League. Now the exact opponent is also clear.
The opponent in the Conference League qualification is certain: Mainz 05 meets Rosenborg Trondheim. The Norwegian record champion prevailed on Thursday evening in the third qualification round against the Swedish representative Hammarby IF. After a goalless draw in the first leg, Trondheim won the second leg 1-0.
This means that the team of coach Bo Henriksen is waiting for a long journey. The first leg will be in Norway next Thursday. The second leg follows in Mainz a week later. The winner of the play-off round moves into the league of the Conference League.
Before the European stage continues, the Bundesliga club has the first competitive game in the DFB Cup: Mainz will compete in second division Dynamo Dresden on Monday (from 6 p.m. in the live ticker at T-Online).
By participating in the play-offs, the Rheinhessen have to cope with a tight program in a short time. A total of five games are scheduled in 14 days. An application to relocate the cup game had previously been rejected.
