The first UEFA title of the season is played in the European Supercup. A political message of the association caused a sensation in front of the kick -off.
Shortly before the European Supercup final kick-off, UEFA set a clear sign. On the playing field of the Bluenergy stadium in Udine Italian, a banner with the message “stops killing children before the game between Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham Hotspur. Stops killing civilians” behind which both teams rose.
At first there was no further information about the background of the campaign. The UEFA only posted a picture of the action on platform X with the comment: “The message is clear from the UEFA Super Cup in Udine. A banner. A call.” There was no more precise classification by the association. Due to the wording, however, it is obvious that the banner alludes to the ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and in the Gaza Strip.
Both Russia and Israel are criticized internationally for their approach in the respective wars. However, such a clear message is rather atypical for the UEFA. It usually dispenses with concrete positioning.
