A change that caused disillusionment at FC Bayern: Florian Wirtz decided at the beginning of the transfer summer for FC Liverpool – and against a transfer to Munich.
DFB sports director Rudi Völler revealed the Pay TV station Sky that Florian Wirtz ‘decision for Liverpool FC was made relatively early. However, it was not a classic cancellation of the record champions.
Völler said: “I always had the feeling – and Leverkusen too – that he felt relatively early that he would go to Liverpool. Of course, he didn’t make it easy to cancel Bayern.”
The main thing is the plan that Liverpool’s coach Arne Slot presented to the offensive player. The strength and international prestige of the Premier League are said to have played a role.
When asked about the attractiveness of the Bundesliga, Völler said that the English clubs had an advantage at the moment: “The Premier League is a bit above everything. In the 80s to the mid -1990s, the Italian league was the ultimate. Now it is the Premier League. It is economically the measure of all things.”
Despite numerous departures such as Wirtz, Benjamin Sesko, Jeremie Frimpong, Granit Xhaka and Hugo Ekitiké, Völler emphasized that there were still excellent players in Germany. With Wirtz he phoned the transfer: “He wanted to have my advice or information.” The relationship is very good – also to the family of the international, which Völler recently met in a friendly between Pisa and Leverkusen.
On Sunday Wirtz was on the pitch for the first time in a competitive game for Liverpool. In the community Shield against Crystal Palace, he prepared a goal, but his new club lost in a penalty shootout. The Premier League for the LFC starts with a home game against AFC Bournemouth on Friday evening (8 p.m.).
