July 2025 will certainly go down in history as a month of Ozzy Osbourne. On July 5th, he was on stage with Black Sabbath at the “Back to the Beginning” concert, which was already legendary. On July 22nd, he died at the age of 76.
Last week, the singer was buried on the site of his villa in the UK on the premises of his villa. Elton John, members of Metallica and other colleagues and artistic companions also took part. Previously, his funeral train was driven through Birmingham in a procession in which thousands of fans took part.
In the show “Trunk Nation with Eddie Trunk” Robert Trujillo, bassist at Metallica and formerly part of Ozzy’s solo band, spoke about the moving ceremony on Siriusxm, which obviously still takes him with him.
“It was a small group of people, but it was very, very nice,” he said. “And in the end the speeches were actually … I mean, it was very sad, but at the same time some of the speeches – as you can imagine – were pretty funny. And many tears flowed.”
Geezer Butler could hardly talk about Ozzy Osbourne
Members of Black Sabbath held speeches and, according to Trujillo, Geezer butler broke out in tears during his speech. “It was very difficult for him to speak, but then he managed to find himself again and he kept an impressive funeral speech.”
Trujillo continued: “It had rained at the beginning of the service, for about an hour, maybe longer – I don’t know exactly anymore. And then, in the course of the service, the weather changed and a lot of things happened. As a Kelly [Osbourne] Sang, her lyrics flew away. The wind simply blew it away. It was almost as if Ozzy had fun with her. And when geezer was on it, so it could really speak, the sun came out. I’m not joking. The sun actually came out, and from that moment it was beautiful – a very magical moment. ”
The musician emphasized that everything was very sad, but it was just nice to exchange ideas and get together in this way. Trujillo: “It felt like a circle had closed. And I am glad that we drove – my wife Chloe and I – and could share that and were able to experience this moment with the family and everything. It was very nice.”
Metallica were also at the “Back to the Beginning” show, where they played cover versions of the Black Sabbath songs “Hole in the Sky” and “Johnny Blade” as well as some own hits, including “Master of Puppets”.
