The chic BN’er-Gym Saints & Stars always guaranteed perfect Instagram pictures, but since the revelations of Het Parool, the influencers have been running away. Cleaners were treated there as if they were the floor covering themselves: working for twelve hours seven days a week, sometimes without wages, hand in passports, not a visa as promised.
Crying with wolves
RTL Boulevard face Donny Roelvink suddenly pretended that he had hardly anything to do with the gym, while he was previously cheerful in all kinds of slick spots for the gym, laughing in the oil and his plastic teeth laughing. But is that sudden public aversion convincing enough?
Reputation advisor Willem van Lynden calls it in a longread of Nu.nl Especially safely crying: great to say that it is ‘horrible’, but if you really have been committed, it will show it, he thinks. “It’s a bit of crying with the wolves.”
“Then do something!”
Just saying that you are so sorry is not enough, says Willem. “They find it very annoying, but that speaks for themselves. At the same time, they hope that the company will do something about the situation of the cleaners. But if you are really concerned with the fate of others, then you could think of what you can do yourself.”
According to him, they could have contributed to the crowdfunding set up for the cleaners. They could also have called for their supporters to do the same. “That takes a little extra effort, but it is an opportunity to help others and do the right thing. That is also good for one’s own image.”
Hand in
Marieke Elsinga has already been called to give up her ‘blood money’ and also Telegraaf reporter Jordi Versteegden is critical for her and other Dutch celebrities who have sported at the wrong gym. He says in News of the Day: “If you really want to make a statement, then you might already hand in some money for those cleaners.”
But Donny? After his indignant scene in RTL Boulevard, he keeps striking cows. No call for donations, no angry stories, no guide to the exploited cleaners, but hope it all overwent as quickly as possible. Can he now sell protein shakes undisturbed?
