Crash in minute two at the Ocean Race Europe: Immediately after the start in Kiel there is a collision between two boats. Both have to go back to the port.
The Ocean Race Europe started with a fright. Just two minutes after the start, the Ocean Race Europe in front of Kiel had a serious collision. The yachts of the teams Holcim PrB (Switzerland) and Allagrand Mapei Racing (Italy) crashed into each other as they sailed side by side. Both boats were so bad that they had to return to Kiel – first the Italians, then also the Swiss.
The sailors remained unharmed at the start drama in fresh and gusty winds. At “Holcim-PrB”, holes in the on-board wall were visible where an interpreter of the mast was poured into the side wall of “Holcim-PrB” like a dagger. At the Italian racing yacht, both the front gel and the large sail of “Holcim-Prbs” foil were torn and torn down. “It’s so disappointing,” said Italian Mapei skipper Ambrosio Beccaria.
They want to announce how things will go on for the teams on Sunday evening in Kiel. Ocean Race Europe’s race management also wants to inform with further details about the incident.
The five remaining yachts continued the race with undiminished speeds. The first two bonus points received the fastest boat less than ten minutes after Paul Meilhat’s French “Biotherm” at the Kiel lighthouse. The second fastest boat “Paprec Arkéa” also received one point from France. Boris Herrmann’s team Malizia was in fourth place an hour after the start.
