Crime journalist Mick van Wely van De Telegraaf is fired for sexual cross -border behavior. His employer Mediahuis Nederland has dismissed the journalist. His resignation was mentioned on the De Telegraaf site on Sunday evening.

Last Monday, De Telegraaf learned that Van Wely approached a woman with explicit sexual proposals on the night of July 31 to August 1. Last week he would have made a sister of Sabrina Smit from Roosendaal, who was murdered in 2001, sexual proposals. He did this after the woman had asked his journalistic attention for the fact that after six years of prison and TBS, after serving his sentence, the murderer of her sister received a job in a clinic – an expertise center for forensic psychiatry – where he himself had been treated after his conviction. Van Wely wrote about this case last Friday His newspaper. At SBS6 in News of the day He expressed his indignation about this murderer ‘a second chance’ in a care clinic.

The employer reproaches Wely from Wely unprofessional action. His performance is contrary to the code of conduct stating that employees have to be professionally and businesslike in relation to relationships. Due to a “gross violation,” De Telegraaf, “he does not meet the standards and values.”

Sanctions

It is in just over three years the second time that Mick van Wely (51 years) has been discredited in this way. In February 2022, his publisher and newspaper announced that reporter Mick van Wely was imposed for sexually undesirable behavior. The measure followed various reports by female Telegraaf colleagues with one of the company’s confidants about inappropriate action by Van Wely.

Van Wely then admitted that he had crossed boundaries in his behavior and apologized. He promised in writing “To work on myself under professional guidance”. He hoped to be able to resume his activities after a period of non-active. After a few months of suspension, he started working as a journalist for De Telegraaf. The then editor -in -chief of De Telegraaf Paul Jansen said he was ‘quite shocked’ in 2022 by the actions of Van Wely. “This is a drama for all involved, in particular the women. Measures are being taken and aftercare has been offered to the reporters.”

The current incident also led to a lot of displeasure and unrest among colleagues from Van Wely. Last Wednesday, the editors of De Telegraaf was informed by the editor -in -chief that an internal investigation was conducted into the actions of Van Wely. “We know the messages and now list the facts,” Telegraaf editor -in -chief Kamran Ullah told last week when asked NRC.

Van Wely says that he has terminated his employment contract with De Telegraaf after good consultation.
