Thomas Müller changes to the Vancouver Whitecaps to the MLS. A positive recommendation from Alphonso Davies apparently increased his decision.
Thomas Müller continues his professional career in the MLS at the Vancouver Whitecaps. In conversation with the content team of the Whitecaps, the Bayern star revealed that an exchange with Alphonso Davies had played a crucial role in his decision for the Canadian team.
“I spoke to Alphonso,” said Müller. “He told me a lot about the city and the whitecaps. Of course that inspired me, but the decision had already been made,” said Müller. He didn’t need Davie’s opinion. “But it was important to me to make sure again.”
Davies is Canadian and started his career early. At the age of 14 he played a year in the Vancouver Whitecaps Academy before he received his first professional contract there in 2016 when he was 15. At the beginning of 2019 the move to Bayern Munich followed. The German record champion transferred a transfer fee of 14 million euros for the now 24-year.
Axel Schuster, managing director and sports director of the Canadian club since 2020, was pleased. “This is mouth-to-mouth propaganda that cannot be paid for when players talk positively about your club,” said Schuster in a media round. The fact that Davies has his time in the Whitecaps in good memories speak, said the Cologne native. “And I think of many other players who have played for us in the past few years. They are always in contact with us and write to us. It is a good feeling that we obviously gave you a nice time and that you are happy to remember the time at the Whitecaps,” said Schuster.
Müller praised the talks with Schuster and Whitecaps coach Jesper Sorensen. “Jesper has a great attitude,” said Müller. “You can feel that immediately. He clearly communicates his ideas and speaks openly about opportunities for improvement.” At Axel Schuster, too, Müller has the impression of being welcome, which gave him a good feeling.
