A new healthcare institution for men with intellectual disabilities, additional psychological problems and/or addiction problems does not belong in Wilhelminaoord. That is the conclusion of the mayor and aldermen (B&W) of Westerveld. The Commission proposes not to issue the required declaration of no objections that is necessary for the permit application.

In the establishment of the Oranjeborg care institution, thirty clients would come, but according to the college that is too big for the scale of the village. In addition, the village already has ‘relatively many intensive care locations’ and, according to the municipality, there are concerns of schools and local residents about safety and integration. With this, Oranjeborg’s proposal does not meet three of the five criteria within municipal regulations.

In the first instance, the plan was, in the Catholic Church in Wilhelminaoord, a residential location De Bouwen that focused on the elderly. That process ran through care provider Fidesta. That party eventually withdrew. Then the Oranjeborg plan came to the table to realize care apartments for a maximum of thirty clients.

The Village Association of the Village Community Frederiksoord-Wilhelminaoord also had doubts about the arrival of the care location. “The care institution is not so much the problem,” explains chairman Andries Ophof. “There are already different care locations with different target groups. That is going well, but it is about stacking. There will then be a care location.”

In September, the Council voted on the proposal of the Mayor and Aldermen not to issue the declaration of no objections.
