The Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers (COA) announced on Monday evening that it will have a view of 800 new emergency shelters in the Netherlands. None of these new places is in a Brabant municipality, confirms a spokesperson for the province of Brabant. “With 99 percent certainty I can say that there are no new reception places in Brabant.”
The new places have become available after an emergency call from the COA. The asylum reception organization asked eight provinces in mid -July, including Brabant, to easily find 2600 emergency shelters in their municipalities.
The COA was not sure whether enough places would be available at the end of July. It would be 325 extra places per province.
1800 places less than requested
On Monday evening, the asylum reception organization will let you know that there is a view of 800 new reception places in the Netherlands. This is 1800 fewer than what was asked for and none of them is in Brabant.
Our province was written by the COA because, together with the provinces of Gelderland, Limburg, Noord-Holland, Overijssel, Utrecht, Zeeland and Zuid-Holland, we have previously not met the statement of the Spreading Act.
Brabant should have had 14,708 reception places on July 1, but did not reach that number by no means. In our province, the total remains in nine thousand places.
COA does not announce new reception spots
Where the new places are found in the Netherlands does not share the COA. A spokesperson for the province of Brabant was able to say ‘with 99 percent certainty’ on Monday that at least no new places were added to Brabant municipalities.
The eight provinces requested outgoing minister Mona Keijzer (BBB) of asylum and migration earlier to perform the Spreading Act instead of asking for emergency shelter locations. Those temporary places are expensive compared to the regular places. But since 1 July, those regular places can force the outgoing minister to regulate municipalities on the basis of that law. The provinces have not yet received a response to the request from Keijzer.
