Chantal Janzen once got into trouble by a paparazzo from the Story. He had captured her on the sensitive plate with … another. “If you lie, you have to sit on the blisters.”
Dutch celebrities cannot just lie down in the wild: they not only run a greater risk of falling through the basket, but once that lie comes out, it also leads to reputation damage. Patricia Paay is now – after months lying about her divorce – known as a pretty unreliable woman.
Report sick
Chantal Janzen therefore finds lying difficult. “There are also times when I deliberately not lie, while it had made it easier. Like that time my husband wanted to go to America with our eldest son, because his eldest daughter had just given birth to her first child,” she writes in her & C-Column.
It was a week before the summer vacation. “And yes, you can report your child sick. But I didn’t dare. Not only because I am familiar and it is rather painful if someone spot you at Schiphol, also because I now think more and more often just like my mother: you just have to say it. Then the risk that someone says no.”
Loudly caught
In the end she neatly canceled her son, but Chantal has not always been so honest. “I also had moments of which I think afterwards: oops, I could have tackled this differently. At the age of twenty -one I made a relationship. I was swore when I hadn’t fallen in love with someone else. While that was the case.”
“And he found out. He had to read that in Story, because paparazzi photos had been published. Afterwards I thought: I had just been honest. I felt very guilty. And that is exactly the thing: if you are lying, you also have to clean up the mess, sit on the blisters, confess guilt.”
