Before returning to the tennis court, Alexander Zverev asked himself the questions of some ex-professionals. Then there was a curious moment.

After his disappointing first round in Wimbledon, Alexander Zverev took some time. The German tennis ace withdrew from competition tennis for around a month. After the bankruptcy in London, Zverev had disclosed mental problems.

He felt “generally already spoken quite alone” in his life, the Hamburger said. It is difficult for him to “find joy outside the tennis court”. He is looking for ways to “get out of this hole,” he said. And announced that they could give more answers at the tournaments in Canada.

This is exactly what he did in the podcast of ex-professional Sam Querrey, John Isner and Steve Johnson, whom he recorded in Toronto before starting at the Masters. The 28-year-old is now in the quarter-finals. He had a “little burnout” in Wimbledon, says Zverev. “I was not very motivated to play. I didn’t really want to train. I didn’t enjoy my time on the pitch,” said Zverev.

Before starting in Toronto, Zverev prepared for the American hard court season in the academy of ex-superstar Rafael Nadal, whose highlight is the US Open, which started on August 24. Zverev will continue to work with the 22-time Grand Slam winner and his coaching, Toni.

But when Zverev is just answering the question of which the former so -called “big three” consisting of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic he could most likely imagine as his trainer, there was a strange moment.

Zverev was about to start his answer when he suddenly had to interrupt the interview. The reason: he suddenly got a cramp. The German quickly jumped up from his couch, from which he led the interview digital and left an empty screen. In the reflection of a picture on the wall, it could be seen how Zverev tried to stretch. The podcast hosts were delighted with the interruption.

After a few seconds, Zverev returned with a water bottle in front of the camera and started to answer the question again. But after only one sentence he had to interrupt again. “Maybe the question is,” the hosts just joked.

But then Zverev finally seemed to have recovered and took a seat again in front of the camera. “It’s the first day here. I trained six hours,” he explained. “It’s very hot.” Then he also answered the question. Before that, he thought that Djokovic was the best trainer for him. But after the week with the Nadals, he would choose the Spaniard.
