At the Pacific on Saturday for 39-year-old Joeweela from Eindhoven, who was shot on July 15 by her ex-husband in Gouda, more than a hundred people were present. According to the organizer of the tour, the meeting was ‘very emotional for the family’.

The participants, including many family members, ran a trip from a community center in Gouda to the place where the 39-year-old woman was killed. There the family put down and candles were lit. White balloons were handed out in advance that were released at the same time when Joeweela’s favorite song sounded.

Alderman Ineke Schaddelee was present at the trip and spoke about femicide, deliberately killing a woman or girl, because she is a woman or girl. Often domestic violence, (honor) revenge, hatred or control play a role in femicide. In many cases the perpetrator is a partner or ex-partner. But it can also be a family member, friend or knowledge or even an unknown woman.

Stay-of-my-body
Joeweela was shot in broad daylight on July 15 in Gouda, before the eyes of her children of six and seven years old. The suspected shooter is her ex-husband and father of the children, Driekus K. (53) from Eindhoven. He then robbed himself of life.

At the beginning of June the woman still reported her ex. The man was then held for two weeks because of firearm possession. According to the court, there were insufficient suspicions to hold him longer for mistreatment. Joeweela himself had been staying in Stay-of-my-Lijfhuizen for months.
