499 prints were made of the photo. These are available free of charge to residents of Kortrijk at Visit Kortrijk. Mayor Ruth Vandenberghe and Alderman of Urban Renewal Wout Maddens were symbolically presented with the first copies today on the Grote Markt, exactly where the photo was taken at the time.
“Kortrijk has a particularly rich history,” say Vandenberghe and Maddens. “It is fantastic that residents can now get their hands on a piece of that past.”
Project developer Philippe Janssens, who contributed to the discovery, also emphasizes the importance of heritage. “It is important to know what foundations we are building on. That is why we want to share this discovery with the general public.”
A life-size print of the photo will later also be placed in the new Nieuw Overleie district.
