This year Nieuwpoort is launching a varied program in honor of Geeraert. For example, there was an exhibition in the library, a lecture by historian Benedict Wydooghe, an AI experience in Westfront Nieuwpoort and a painted electricity box with its portrait. In addition, memorial posters were distributed and a podcast on Geeraert’s life and legacy started in June.
With honorary citizenship, Hendrik Geeraert joins a select group of deserving inhabitants who have put Nieuwpoort on the map.
