On Monday, Laura Dahlmeier in Pakistan was seriously injured by a rockfall. The concern is great because the 31-year-old has not yet been saved.

The search for the biathlon Olympic champion Laura Dahlmeier, who was in Pakistan in the Karakorum Mountains in Pakistan, is to be continued in the morning. On Tuesday evening, the search for the 31-year-old was initially discontinued due to the broken darkness, as a spokesman for the tourism authority on site of the German press agency had announced.

The worries are great. Because at a height of around 5,700 meters there is minus degrees and there is snow. Dahlmeier crashed on Monday by a rockfall on Laila Peak – it is the second night. The scene of the accident is difficult to access. There is also a risk of rockfall. Rescue workers could not yet penetrate the experienced mountain athlete.

On Tuesday morning, a helicopter had scanned the position. “Signs of life could not be recognized,” said the management of the world’s best biathlete afterwards. She was “at least seriously injured,” it said.

An international team coordinates the salvage. The mountain rescuers would be supported by experienced international mountaineers who were in the region, it said. The Laila Peak is located near the K2, the second highest mountain in the world, near the border with China. The region attracts mountaineers every year, but the risks from avalanches and storms are high.
