Former handball player Patrick Groetzki wants to end his professional career after the coming season. This was announced by the 36-year-old in a club announcement by his Bundesliga club Rhein-Neckar Löwen.

The veteran, who won bronze at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro with the 2016 DHB team, wants to switch to the management of the two-time German champion and cup winner.

Groetzki has been playing for the lions since 2007. “In these 19 years, the lions have not only become home to me in sports. Here I found friends for life, here I feel completely at home. All the more I look forward to the next chapter in my club, which will present me with completely new challenges,” said the right wing. Groetzki studied in parallel to Sport BwL.

So far, the Pforzheim native has played a total of 549 HBL games. He wore the national jersey 173 times. With seven World Cup participation, he shares the DHB record with Silvio Heinevetter.
