The Texelse Courant is of one of the few paid local newspapers in our country. It appears twice a week and more than half of all islanders have a subscription. Gerard Timmerman, the born and raised on Texel, came to the Courant by writing reports of football matches. And after 35 years he is still not written out.
Schokland was an island in the Zuiderzee, the current IJsselmeer. Due to the constant floods, it had to be evacuated in 1859. The residents had to take everything on their fishing vessels, including their house. In Noord-Holland, only Volendam was prepared to record them.
