Eisbären Berlin are defeated by Ingolstadt 2:3 after a penalty shootout

The Eisbären Berlin suffered their second defeat in a row in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL), but are still at the top of the table. On Tuesday evening, the German champions lost against ERC Ingolstadt 2:3 (0:1, 0:1, 2:0, 0:0, 0:1) after a penalty shootout.

Late goals from Dominik Bokk and Zach Boychuk enabled the capital city team to come back from a 2-0 deficit but ultimately had to settle for a point.

In front of 4,835 spectators in the arena at the Ostbahnhof, the polar bears dominated the game from the start, but found it difficult to create clear chances against the deep-lying and consistently defending guests. The Ingolstadt team took the lead in one of their few attempts: Christopher Bourque scored just before the first break.

After the restart, the Berliners kept trying, but still lacked the necessary precision in the build-up and conclusion. The guests were much more efficient and extended their lead with a power play hit by Justin Feser.

Only in the final section did the Berliners manage to overcome the Ingolstadt defense. Bokk and Boychuk equalized with their goals.

The extra time remained goalless, in the penalty shoot-out David Warsofsky made the decision in favor of the guests.
