Domingo Felipe Cavallothe father of convertibility, the man with a plan, possibly the authentic villain of this story, Nemesis of the Riojan leader played by Leonardo Sbaraglia in “Menem”the series of which the whole country speaks. Not anyone could put on the skin of such a character and assume such a challenge. The Prime Video series, directed by the Argentine Pop Culture Wizard, Ariel “Wino” Winogra, has a Dream Team acting that complete, among others, Griselda Siciliani, Monna Antonópulos, Juan Minujín, Jorgelina Auzzi, Agustín Sullivan and Cumelén Sanz.
The responsibility of characterizing one of the most controversial economy ministers in history fell on Campi’s shoulders, a consecrated comedian, who knew how to be the father of the Rosario piano man in “Love after love.” Humor icon, he was part of Marcelo Tinelli’s winning team. He was successor to the remembered Antonio Gasalla in “waiting for the float.” Actor of the thousand masks constantly evolving.
Such commitment has it motivated and wanting to chat. Propic and ideal moment to talk with news, this 2025 places Campi in a privileged place in the audiovisual field, since it also looks in the policeman “The kiss of Judas” (Flow).
Martín Campilongo He is a 56 -year -old watercolor, married to actress Denise Dumas, they have four children, Emma, Francesca, Isabella and Santino (the last two of a previous couple of Denise)
Comedian, actor, imitator, screenwriter, Campi always opted for creativity and improvement in his field. He knew how to be part of Argentine television classics as “Your face sounds to me”, “Danger without coding”, “Dancing for a dream” and “Videomatch”. In Cinema it was directed by Raúl Perrone, Daniel Barone, Adrián Suar, Sabrina Farji and Nicanor Loreti showing signs of their versatility, a true factory brand.
News: When one remembers Domingo Cavallo, his eyes are very present, that look of a malevolent doll. How was it incarnating it?
Campi: It was a lot of fun! I had done it at the time in “great brother -in -law” of Videomatch, but it was a cartoon, an imitation. In this series the laburo is much finer, very observation, it is another language and I liked the challenge of changing the tone, of modifying the pencil to the portrait. It is precisely the difference between drawing a cartoon or a portrait, one requires a thicker and the other is more in detail. And Wino makes everything very funny.
News: Did it cost a lot to move from the cartoon to the portrait?
Campi: No, I love it. I grabbed difficult work, I like being in trouble (laughs).
News: His performance in the Fito Páez series is very remembered and now it is his turn to personify Cavallo in the series on Menem. Why do you think that in recent times there are so many biopics focused on Argentine characters?
Campi: Because people choose to consume that. This is a business, if you sell pears, we sell pears. I suppose that is the reason.
News: You have been working very well in Series, José María Listorti is breaking it in “La Sernita”, Pachu Peña was in “Black Widows”, Fredy Villarreal is doing very well in theater with “The function that goes wrong.” Do you feel that there is a claim of comedians who talked with Tinelli?
Campi: It can be, right? Now that I think about it. I never felt as a section of the matter, maybe because I do other things, not just comedies, but I never stopped working and my colleagues you named either. The same may be that there is recognition, that I know (smiles).
News: Let’s go back to “Menem.” Ariel Winograd manages humor and satire like nobody. What did he ask when composing Cavallo?
Campi: He marked me that it would be up and then anything we were adjusting. He proposed that game and I turned on, he handles comedy very well, so everything is easy. Several chapters are in a clear comedy tone and in their hands they are very well counted, because to make comedy you have to know how to create, direct it and edit it. It is a genre that asks that he plays it, each one has to carry the comedy on top and Wino about that knows absolutely everything.
News: Is comedy more difficult than drama?
Campi: I don’t think, that is said much, but the drama is also very complicated, huh!
News: Did you based your composition exclusively on the script or did you have to investigate? Did he get to know Cavallo?
Campi: Yes, I met him in the 90s. I was in “Videomatch” at that time and sent us to Casa Rosada every day to make note to Menem or Cavallo. I also had the possibility to get together with him now, but I tell you the truth, I didn’t want to. I had to do the Cavallo of the 90s and I had matured more than thirty years, I preferred to stay with what I had met and that remained in my head.
News: It is inevitable that we leave a minute of “Menem” and ask him for “waiting for the float.” What meant to embody Mom Cora, Antonio Gasalla’s iconic character?
Campi: We finished recently, we were about two years on the poster at the Broadway Theater and it was incredible. I started doing it with Antonio Vivo and he left while the season passed, so he became something different to do that mother Cora already without Antonio on this plane. For me, “waiting for the float” was a blessing, I had a lot of fun, I put his suit, the one that Antonio had invented and is somewhat beautiful. Mom Cora is wonderful, has a lot to do with our Argentine.
News: Mama Cora is very attached to Argentinity and Menem too. Most of his scenes in the series are with Leonardo Sbaraglia, how did he see him by Carlos Saúl Menem?
Campi: You saw what it is! I love what he does, he is really incredible, it is impossible that you don’t like it.
News: Wino is also shooting the second season of the Coppola series, I don’t know if he saw the first, but why do we always return to 90? What fascinates us so much from that time?
Campi: Yes, I saw the first Coppola season, it’s very good! I think there were sections in which this time was fun at a certain point, although I also remember the headline that said: “A party that we are now paying” when that decade ended. The same we recognized that this party had many guests too, I talked on television and I remember that it was a crazy thing. A lot of budget, a lot of trip, they told us: “Alain Delon spoke, you have to go to Paris tomorrow,” “No problem!” (We laughed) television programs gave cars as if they were cigarette of cigarettes, it is hard to believe it, but that happened.
News: Beyond what the series shows, what was the best and the worst of menemism for someone like you who lived it?
Campi: Look, like me at that moment I worked on TV, I lived it by working a lot and very well, I think that for me was the best. The worst thing is what happened to Argentine companies that could not compete in the face of imports, what came from outside had given prices in relation to the national industry, they melted and many people had a frightfully bad.
News: Tell me a little about your show “Campi de Tira”. What is it?
Campi: In getting a pleasure because I never turned in my life, can you believe? And that I have done theater for more than thirty years. I never had time to travel the country because I am always working a lot, now I made a hole until I started to rehearse a new thing in December and I said: “It’s time to give me the pleasure!” It’s a pleasure. I am touring the country with a unipersonal that Antonio Gasalla directed me, look at what the things of life are … and I am enjoying it a lot.
News: I saw that a sketch went up to his Instagram account where Aldo Rico with Listorti and the true Aldo Rico. Sometimes he feels longing for those times or does it say, I already lived it?
Campi: Yes, that video sent it to me, I didn’t remember it, but it seemed fun and uploaded it. I don’t feel longing for, I already lived that, of course, but they are beautiful moments. I am very happy who I am, all that is part of the make of this. I am happy with the result and it would not be who I am today of not having gone through that street.
News: He mentioned that he will begin to rehearse in December, he sure cannot tell anything but I ask him, is it theater?
Campi: Yes, I can’t tell anything but it’s theater. It is something big for what I have to train, lose weight, even if it is a couple more kilos, I also quit smoking because what I am going to do is very demanding. I am addicted to cigarette and ice cream (laughs). They did not make me abandon the ice cream shop, but I have to take care of that because of the calories, so you cannot.
