The former Latvian biathlon coach Ilmar’s Bricis has long been closed to Andrejs Rastorgujevs at the 2025 World Cup in Lenzerheide for his attack. The World Association IBU announced this at the weekend.
As the Biathlon World Association IBU announced in a message, the former Latvian national coach Ilmar’s Bricis is closed to Andrejs Rastorgujevs at the World Cup in Lenzerheide for a total of six months. By mid-January 2026, the early professional must not perform biathlon-specific activities.
Rastorgujevs had levied serious allegations against Bricis at the World Cup and, among other things, claimed that the coach had beaten him and broke his finger. According to the biathlete, this argument came about because he caught the coach how he wanted to steal some of his skis.
The trainer did not contest the physical examination of Rastorgujevs, but he represented it differently. “We didn’t go so far, but we definitely fought,” said Bricis, who only resigned from an office a few days later.
Biathlon coach cooperative and insightful
In her investigation, the responsible IBU Commission found that Bricis had violated the code of conduct and endangered the security and well-being of the athlete. According to the IBU, Bricis was cooperative and insightful. The ex-Settland coach also accepted the six-month lock.
The IBU-Official Greg McKenna was satisfied with the result of the investigation and declared the case to be completed. McKenna explained that no violence or security -endangering behavior towards the athletes or other people will be accepted.
“While Mr. Bricis’s behavior and actions were unacceptable, his cooperation was taken into account during the examination and determination of the six -month lock,” he emphasized.
