Scottie Scheffler won PGA Championship earlier this year
Scheffler previously won the Masters (2022 and 2024) twice and in May of this year in Charlotte the PGA Championship, his third major tournament. With the victory of the British Open, only the US Open is missing on the representative list of the 29-year-old American.
Home favorite Rory Mcilroy, earlier this year winner of the Masters, also finished shared seventh at ten strokes under par. The Northern Irish won the British Open in 2014.
“It’s a very special feeling,” said Scheffler. “It was a tough week. I fought hard for it. It was a fight, but I played very well and I feel happy that I am standing here with the cup.”
It was for Scheffler’s fourth victory in eleven tournaments, but he said that this victory meant a lot to him. The American remembered that as a child he got up extra early to watch the tournament on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean. “I grew up watching this tournament on TV and hoped and dreamed that I would ever get the chance to play there. It is pretty cool to sit here with the trophy now.”
Remarkable Revelation Top golfer Scottie Scheffler: ‘This is not a satisfactory life’
Scheffler caused a stir in the run -up to the British Open by telling that he gets little satisfaction from winning tournaments. “I struggle daily asking why I want to win a tournament,” he said. “It gives a short moment satisfaction for the performance, but it does not fill the deepest feeling of your heart. This is not a satisfactory life.”
