Sweden’s Linn Persson received crushing feedback from spectators after the final race of the season.

The World Biathlon season ended on Sunday at Holmenkollen in Norway.
The last race of the women’s season was seen in the 12.5-kilometer combined start with the Swedish With Elvira Öberg had a chance to win the overall cup of mass departures.

– They say I made a mistake. It feels scariest of all that people think I didn’t want Elvira to win the Cup. That’s not true.
Annoyed by the comments, the Swede says he was unaware of the consequences of his overtaking and that Braisaz-Bouchet even had a chance to win the mass cup.
– I didn’t know the situation. I had only heard that Elvira and Dorothea Wierer compete for the mass cup victory. During the race, I imagined the situation to look good and I knew Wierer was behind it.
Wierer placed 12th in Sunday’s overall start.
– I did not receive any information about this situation during the competition. It was certainly easier to look at the situation from the couches at home because you get information and can calculate the situation. But we can’t do it when we compete, Persson continues.
Stable regulation in use?
Persson was asked if he should have gotten better information about the massacup battle during the race.
– It’s a completely different question. It would then be a matter of team tactics, but we have not done so before. Is that the direction we want to go? Biathlon doesn’t work that way, and do we want our sport to go in the direction of other species?
In biathlon, situations change quickly, and that is the core of the sport. In the situation seen at Holmenkollen, a team order familiar from the formula world would have brought Öberg a victory in the mass start cup. Now it was 0.1 seconds away.
Persson says he has discussed the matter with Öberg, and there has been no gap between them.
– We both know how competition works. I understand his disappointment. There is no resentment between us but very peaceful.
