At least 34 people were killed in Vietnam after a tourist boat capsized. This is reported by AP. The boat ended up during a cruise through the well -attended bay of Ha Long in stormy weather and then turned.
On board were 53 people, including five employees. Among them were reportedly twenty children. Rescue workers have been able to save eleven victims. Dozens of lifeless bodies have since been stored out of the water. Eight people on board are still missing hours after the accident.
Nothing has been announced yet about the nationality of the victims. Most tourists were according to the Vietnamese newspaper Vnexpress Coming from Hanoi, the capital of Asian country.
After the accident, a rescue campaign was launched. According to VNEXPRESS, about three hundred rescue workers were deployed and thirty boats from, among others, the Navy, Coast Guard and Police. According to the newspaper, a fourteen -year -old boy was able to survive four hours thanks to a bubble in the wheel hut of the ship.
The bay of Ha Long, with its thousands of limestone islands that protrude above the water, is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. It is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the country. According to VNEXPRESS, the accident probably took place near the Dau Go-GRO, one of the largest caves in the bay.
