Darts professional Martin Schindler is apparently still looking for his top form before his next mission at the World Matchplay. “It is currently very mediocre. There is definitely room for improvement, but also downwards,” said the German number one in an interview with the Sport Information Service (SID) before starting at the major tournament in the English Blackpool.

However, the number 18 of the world ranking does not see the reason for concern: “At the moment it is not so easy to flake,” Schindler admitted: “But overall, the statistics are still okay.”

Before the next highlight of the year, the Strausberger spent the time with a short family vacation in Nice. Now he wants to finally win his first win at the Empress Ballroom of the Winter Garden of Blackpool at the tournament endowed with 800,000 pounds. “I hope that the time has come,” said Schindler.

For a progress, its prize money would already rise from £ 10,000 to £ 15,000, the winner receives £ 200,000. In the first round, Schindler caught Jonny Clayton from Wales in the world ranking fifth. But: “I think I have chances. I know that he shouldn’t be underestimated.”

The duel between the two (Sunday, 9:00 p.m./DAZN) is initially only another match with German participation. In addition to Schindler, only Ricardo Pietreczko is there, and on Monday he meets the number six in the world in round one with Chris Dobey (England).
