From 2026, Hoogeveners without driveway will have the chance to charge their electric car at home. As a test for a number of houses, the municipality wants to allow cable mats.

These are rubber mats that hide charging cables on sidewalks and sidewalks, so that people don’t stumble over it. In this way someone can build a charging station at home and then pull the plug to the car.

At the moment, according to the rules of the municipality, this is not yet permitted, because the sidewalk is not the property of the residents. Hoogeveen looks with the test whether it is possible. Interested parties must be fast, because there is only room for a number of people.

You can register from September and participants must meet a number of strict conditions. The cable mat may not cause problems and the charging station at home must be approved.

In 2023, a majority of the council already agreed to allow the possibilities for a test with cable mats. Hoogeveners without driveway also indicated in the past that they would like to want opportunities for home loading.

Robert Nijland, who lives along the Kanaalweg, is forced to park hundreds of meters away to load at a public pole. In 2022 he already suggested experimenting with cable mats or cable ducts.
