The weekend in Indonesia brought a smile back to Yamaha. Fabio Quartararo and Franco Morbidelli had left Qatar, the first stage of the MotoGP World Championship, disappointed and disheartened. Sensations completely reversed in the Mandalika GP, finished by the Frenchman in second position, while the Italian finished seventh. The surprises were not limited to the track: both Fabio and Franco also animated the post-race, including unexpected gifts and races at the airport with the police.

With the hotel close to the circuit and reachable by scooter directly from the paddock, contacts between riders and inhabitants were frequent. It was no less Quartararo, who, on the first day in Indonesia, on March 16, met some children intent on selling their handmade bracelets in the streets of Lombok. After the GP, the 22-year-old Frenchman decided to surprise them by offering an ice cream to each of the members of the group. A surprise immortalized by the Instagram stories of the Yamaha rider and his friend Tom Maubant. For the children it was a special and particularly appreciated gesture, as evidenced by the happy looks and thanks to Fabio, a true champion on and off the track.

Morbidelli also experienced a decidedly bizarre post-race. The Italian had planned to return home immediately after the Grand Prix, but the postponement of the race complicated his plans, risking not to reach the airport in time. After the press conference, Franco found in a policeman a help as involuntary as it was unexpected: in response to the request of the former Moto2 world champion, the agent gave him his Yamaha MT09. Morbidelli took the smallest baggage with him and started driving, with the owner of the vehicle in the saddle with him. Mission accomplished in the end: plane caught by a whisker and Yamaha returned to the polite policeman. A decidedly unforgettable epilogue with a happy ending.
