Prison for man who killed Bosschenaar with stolen Range Rover Inland

Suspect Hugo H. claims that he was in psychosis during the accident. He would have been convinced that he was being chased and killed. According to his lawyer, he was therefore completely insane and therefore not guilty. However, the court ruled that he was indeed to blame for the accident. “You knew from previous events that you were mentally vulnerable and you got in the car anyway,” the judge said.

H. had stolen a Range Rover from a man in Erp on Sunday morning, August 1, last year, after he had an accident with his own car. He then drove the stolen car to Den Bosch, where he hit 130 on the counter on 50-kilometer roads. He ran red at least twice and then hit the Bossche garden center owner Peter Stolzenbach in his car. He died on the spot. H. had been discharged from a psychiatric hospital three days earlier.

The judge ruled that the man did have a personality disorder and that his behavior could not be fully blamed on him. The Public Prosecution Service had asked for a four-year prison sentence. In addition to the lower prison sentence and the mandatory treatment, H. also received a four-year driving ban from the court.
