The fire brigade calls on people throughout Brabant to pay extra attention to nature. Because it has been dry in nature for a long time, the danger of wildfires has increased. That is why ‘phase 2’ has been set. In this phase, terrain keepers, nature managers and emergency services are extra alert, but they also ask the public to keep an eye on things. “You can still go out into nature, but use common sense,” says the fire brigade.
The risk level is adjusted regularly at this time of year. “Usually around March and April we see that it is longer dry. With the beautiful weather, more people are also going into nature, so more attention must now be paid,” a spokesperson said.
Two years ago, a major wildfire swept through the Deurnese Peel. That fire raged at the end of April and more than 700 hectares of nature were destroyed. Since then, the fire brigade has two teams that can be specially deployed to fight large wildfires.
