After “cousin”, Wilco pause (but of course are still on a concert tour, most recently also with festival appearances in Germany). There is new solo music by Jeff Tweedy for this. On September 26th “Twilight Override” a triple album.
There are already four songs from it: In addition to the (fantastic) Uptempo-Americana single “Enough”, these are “One Tiny Flower”, “Out in the Dark” and “Stray Cats in Spain”.
The pieces represent the musical range of the new triple LP. Tweedy will also go on tour. Unfortunately, the European part leads past Germany.
New album by Jeff Tweedy: Resistance to the nightmares of our time
Twilight Override ”is now the fifth solo album of the Wilco head. However, it is also his first new one since“ Love is the King ”five years ago. It was of course recorded in his studio in Chicago (The Loft). Tweedy himself produced and recorded it, there was support from James Elkington, Sima Cunningham, Macie Stewart, Liam Kazar to his children Spencer and Sammy. Grammy winner Tom Schick was responsible for mix and engineering, and has long been an old acquaintance of Tweedy.
According to the press release, each of the three “chapters” by Twilight Override can stand for themselves, but together they tell a “story from the past, present and future”.
Jeff Tweedy in detail about his new recording:
“” If you choose creative activities, you connect with something that other people call God. And if you connect with creation, you automatically face the destruction. You are on the side of creation. And this is significantly involved in suppressing the impulse for destruction. Creativity devours darkness.
Nowadays it is like an endless buffet – a bottomless basket full of low points. That is probably the reason why I’ve been producing so much recently. This feeling of decline is difficult to ignore and it is also part of the veil that I try to ventilate. The downfall of an empire seems to be a good starting point if you fall into the abyss.
‘Twilight’ is a nice word. And the world is full of happy people in subordinate empires, so this may not be the only source of this dissonance. Whatever there is out there (or indoors) and presses this cloudy into my day, it is damn overwhelming. It is difficult to ignore.
‘Twilight Override’ is my attempt to overwhelm it back. Here are the songs and sounds and voices and guitars and words that are an attempt to let go of the heaviness and increase the wattage of my own light. My attempt to devour this penetrating night (nightmare) of the soul. “”
