Superstar and franchise face Connor McDavid are only under contract with the Edmonton Oilers for a season. Most recently, the Canadian had announced that he wanted to take the time to think about his future in the NHL. However, a league insider does not believe that this is outside of Alberta.
“You shouldn’t worry about that,” explained the renowned NHL expert Elliotte Friedman in the “32 Thoughts Podcast” And according to: “I think he is extending, I just don’t know how long it will take. There will be no fight for details.”
Friedman is certain that the 28-year-old will approach the team with his demands and the Oilers will accept them. How long it takes for both parties to sit down at the negotiating table is not yet foreseeable.
Edmonton Oilers: McDavid has “not in a hurry”
“The conversations have not even started,” said Oilers-GM Stan Bowman in a media round at the beginning of the month about the upcoming poker: “We are ready at the moment when they are. Connor is the right to decide when he would like to accept the talks.”
McDavid goes to the last year of its eight -year contract in 2025/2026 and can become unresacted free agent after the coming season. The Canadian already showed that he wanted to discuss with his agent Judd Moldaver and his family before making a decision.
“I don’t have in a hurry to make a decision, so I don’t think there has to be a schedule,” McDavid said at a press conference shortly after the bitter bankruptcy in the Stanley Cup finals against the Florida Panthers. He explained that he had to “do what is the best for me and my family. You have to take care of them first.”
Loud ESPN the center will only stay with the Oilers if the team can explain how it can be enough for the first Stanley Cup triumph since 1990. If McDavid does not see the title perspective, the chances of staying in Edmonton are probably bad.
