Every second Sunday of July, the Big Jump takes place – an international event in which thousands of citizens throughout Europe every year a leap car for Proper Water. “The challenges in the field of water quality continue to exist,” says organizer GoodPlanet. “Our ground and surface water is highly polluted and often of poor quality. Measurements show that only one of the 195 Flemish watercourses is in good condition.” In Wallonia, the condition of the surface water bodies is slowly improving. There are around 44 percent in good condition.

Last year, almost two thousand people jumped into the water at thirty locations throughout Belgium. This year, GoodPlanet hopes for even more participants. The West-Flemish cities that participated: Avelgem, Bruges, Damme, De Panne, Kortrijk, Oudenburg, Veurne and Westende-Nieuwpoort.
