The quarter-final opponent for the DFB women has not yet been determined. But what is already certain: if Germany makes it into the semi -finals, there is a threat of a duel with the world champions.

The German footballers had hoped to achieve first place in Group C with a success against Sweden in the last preliminary round game. Then they would have played their quarter -finals in Zurich next Thursday (July 17th, 2025) – and had the certainty that they could meet the world champions from Spain at the earliest.

But it turned out differently – and that’s why the further path through the tournament for the team of national coach Christian Wück is now different in group C as a second.

Travel day before the quarter -finals

First of all, the DFB Tross has to plan a travel day before the quarter-finals next Saturday (July 19, 2025, 9 p.m.): Instead of Zurich, Germany will play in Basel. Both cities are only 90 kilometers apart, but since the official final training session takes place in the St. Jakob Park in Basel in the evening before the game, there will be a hotel night.

In the quarter -finals against France?

Germany must now play against the winner from Group D in the round of the last eight. It looks like that could be the French. “Les Bleues” will meet the Netherlands as league leaders on Sunday evening (9 p.m., live in the first and in stream at Sportschau.de).

France is enough to make the group victory perfect. England and the Netherlands could also become the first in the event of corresponding results and thus quarter-final opponents of the German team.

Spain or Switzerland possible Semi -final opponent

If Germany wins – no matter against whom – the quarter -finals, it would be an anticipated final in the semi -finals on July 23 (9 p.m.): Opponents there most likely be the world champions and world ranking runners from Spain. They meet the hosts from Switzerland in the quarterfinals and are clearly favored there.

Location advantage for the DFB team: The game takes place in the Zurich Lastigrund Stadium-in the city in which the German Tross also moved into its team quarters at the beginning of the tournament.

New edition of Wembley’s final is conceivable

It is still a long way off, but a look at a possible final constellation is also allowed at this point: If the national team of national coach Christian Wück wins the next two European Championship games, the final edition of the European Championship final from 2022 against England (1: 2 NV) could occur in the final on July 27 (6 p.m.).

The prerequisite for this is that the “Lionesses” end the preliminary round on Sunday evening and then prevail in the quarter and semi-finals.

As of the outcome of the preliminary round group D – France or the Netherlands would be possible for Germany, as well as Norway, Italy or Sweden.
