HSV party after three years

Matho Raab (26) said goodbye to Berlin after three HSV years from Hamburg and switched to Berlin. On Friday morning, the 1st FC Union announced the commitment of the goalkeeper, which had only come to a longer series of missions in the 2023/24 season. On the Elbe, Daniel Peretz (24) from FC Bayern is now to focus. In Köpenick, Raab complements the goalkeeper team around Frederik Rönnow (32) as the successor to Alexander Schwolow (33), whose contract was not extended.
“With Matheo we get another important and interesting component for our goalkeeper team. We are convinced that he will revitalize the competition between the posts and are happy that he has chosen us,” said Union Managing Director emphasized Horst Heldt. Raab said to his move to the capital: “The way that Union has gone in recent years and wants to continue in the future immediately convinced me. I heard a lot of good things about the stadium and the fans and can hardly wait to experience it all.”
In Hamburg, the former Kaiserslauterer Raab had long been left behind Daniel Heuer Fernandes (32) and then also bad luck when he seemed to have developed the number one rank. Coach Tim Walter preferred him shortly before his HSV party in February 2024. Raab survived the change of coach to Steffen Baumgart as the first choice for the goal. And originally Raab should go into the last season in this role. However, pneumonia put him out of action in preparation and in the first games, which is why this year Fernandes took over the place between the posts and no longer gave.
Raab’s HSV contract was still in 2026, most recently he was also associated with Bundesliga relegated Holstein Kiel. Union goalkeeper team still includes Carl Klaus (31) and the Yannic Stein (20), Lennart Grill (26), who returned from his loan in Babelsberg, moved to Dynamo Dresden on Wednesday.
In the direction of HSV, Raab said in a message from the Hamburgers: “I look back on three very intensive years at HSV: The time was shaped by many highs, but also a few setbacks, such as last year with several injuries. Nevertheless, the moment of the promotion naturally brings everything out. I will not have been forgotten with HSV. Trainers, employees and of course the great fans.
