Southern Europe is also plagued this week by heavy natural fires as a result of the persistent heat. Near the French town of Narbonne, about 80 kilometers north of the border with Spain, an area of more than 2800 football pitches was on fire on Tuesday. At Marseille the fire is pulled up to the city borders. Natural fires also raged in Spain, Greece and Turkey.
