Tennisser Tim van Rijthoven put an end to his career on Tuesday. The cause is a stubborn elbow injury. Van Rijthoven from Roosendaal surprised friend and foe in 2022 by winning the Libéma Open in Rosmalen. Later that summer he came far on Wimbledon. Since then it has been struggling for Van Rijthoven with his body and injuries. “I would have liked to say goodbye on my own conditions, with a racket in my hand and the audience in the stands. But sometimes the body decides differently than the head.”

In an explanation on Instagram, 28-year-old Van Rijthoven cites the legendary summer of 2022 when his dreams came true. “Winning the Libéma Open in 2022, my first ATP title, for its own audience in Rosmalen-that remains one of the most beautiful moments of my life forever.”
