During their working visit to Belize Jamaica and the Bahamas as part of Queen Elizabeth’s platinum jubilee, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were forced to cancel a visit to a sustainable cocoa farm in Belize on Saturday.
Local residents protested the couple’s visit. The villagers are said to be outraged that the Cambridges were allowed to land their helicopter on the village football field without permission.
They were able to continue their journey, and fortunately this was done in all kindness. This is how the two royals met the Prime Minister of the country, Johnny Briceno, and his wife Rosanna.
Jamaica
Now there seems to be another hitch when they travel to Jamaica on Tuesday. Advocates Network, a coalition of Jamaican activists and equality organizations, will hold a demonstration to raise awareness of the slavery past. The protesters demand apologies and compensation for the suffering of their ancestors.
Jamaica is celebrating nearly sixty years of independence. That’s why it’s important to tell Britain “that they’ve done it wrong by enriching themselves through slavery and colonialism,” said a co-organizer of the protest.
So to be continued.
