“That is the advantage of a small village,” says Visser. A fellow villager saw that the monument was daub and applied him right. He went to the monument and saw that a text had been written on it and a reference to Adolf Hitler.

“We immediately viewed camera images of local residents and it was clearly someone to see,” says the chairman. “In the village we have looked at more camera images and spoken eyewitnesses. Eventually we followed the address of the person who did it.” According to Visser, it is someone from the village itself.

Reasons

“The perpetrator also thrown a letter at a hotel, he wrote something about his motives,” says Visser. “It stated, for example, whether the monument could not be in another place.”

The foundation has also informed the police, but has not yet made a report. “We will first talk to the man. The conversation will show if we will make a report,” Visser explains.

When establishing the monument, a protocol has also been drawn up for issues such as vandalism. “We have a story with our vision for someone who wants to discuss with us and try to get the sting out that way.”

The monument was unveiled last year and stands for all missing Allied and German pilots.
