Sortul set of The thief of boys1991. “Michel Piccoli joked with Marcello Mastroianni:” But how many films did you shoot? “. “Ah I don’t remember, more than one hundred …”. I had my eyes wide: “how-is it?”. Now I understand it! ». He laughs, Angela Molina, who with 166 films behind him and six arriving has beat Mastroianni for some time. The last? Serán (They will be dust) by Carlos Marques-Mercet, in the room in January 2026: It impersonates an actress who, after a diagnosis of cancer, decides to resort to assisted suicide in Switzerland together with her husband. Except that the wife is very well, and this arouses misunderstanding (and anger) in children.
Angela Molina: “My 70 years are full of gratitude”
In fact … who makes him do it to him?
(smiles) It is a variation – aware – on the theme of Romeo and Giulietta. Love is stronger than death, as the Cantico dei Canticiand as the poet Francisco de Quevedo says, and as we all say. For a coincidence, too Le Dernier Souffle by Costa Gavras e Cosmos of Germinal Roux, which I interpreted immediately before, dealt with the departure. The difference is that Serán – with music and dance scenes, with beauty in short – it allows us to get out of “light” cinemas.
Among other things, the choreography of Marcos Morau – which will present in July at the Venice Biennale And In September in Romaeuropa two new shows, La Mort i La Spring And Afanador – They are enchanting.
AND genial! And his company, the Veronal, amazing!
Did dance caused them nostalgia? He started like this, right?
Yes! I practiced classical dance since I was a child, I attended the Conservatory and I graduated as a teacher of the Spanish classical dance.

First time
The first ever memory of a stage?
I was in his dad’s arms while the audience applauded … my father (Antonio Molina, editor’s note) is a legend in Spain: God has granted him the privilege of a Stradivari instead of the voice. He came from the people, he was humble and conquered the heart of the public. I have always been in love with it, I considered it my best friend. He told me that during the war – when he went down with his mother in the shelters – he sang strong to cover the noise of the bombs: “There will be bombs, but I am there Paso Bomba (I’m great, editor’s note)! “. It was witty. (laughs) I owe my career a little to him …
“Cinema of the striptease”

In what sense?
A weekly, in 1973, had paid tribute to the glories of Spanish folklore by publishing the photos of the children in a box. Mine was noticed by César Fernández Ardavín, who was looking for the protagonist for No matarássad story of a girl who dies from a poorly performed abortion (the interruption of pregnancy was not legalized). Alas, I don’t know the half measures and, at that point, did I have to choose: cinema or dance? I went to the unknown … after all, in the dance I was missing something: the word.
The second movie?
It was not easy to identify it. It was the period of the Cine de Destape (of the striptease, comparable to Italian sexy comedies, editor’s note) and I was a cinephile since I was so high (indicates the height of a child): hurry up my homework went to the española filmoteca in Madrid, on the corner of my house, and I saw myself Akira Kurosawa, Ingmar Bergman, François Truffaut, Roberto Rossellini … When I came back I was another, I opened stunning windows on the human condition. Fortunately, the Transición (the transition period from the Franco dictatorship to democracy, between 1975 and 1982, editor’s note) …
… And there have been established directors such as Manuel Gutiérrez Aragón, Carlos Saura, Pedro Almodóvar.
After the censorship, you could finally deal with social and political topics, experiment with unpublished narrative and stylistic forms, add sense of humor. Then, after the success of That dark object of desire by Luis Buñuel in 1977, the world has widened me.
“Enjoy life”

What memory does he have to shoot? He alternated with carole bouquets in the role of the concite dancer who seduces the elderly Mathieu/Fernando Rey.
An anecdote is fun: Mathieu had to be fragile, vulnerable, Fernando instead was a safe type of himself, stoic. In the scene in which he discovers that I conclude, he dances naked in front of tourists, to “destabilize him” Buñuel suggested to me: “When I cry” action! “, You sit on his knees and you say that they smell his feet!”. A triumph: it has become red! When he understood that it was a game, he came to laugh: “But go to that country!”. (laughs)
The most precious lesson learned by the director?
Enjoy life. Luis enjoyed how a child directing, with the same purity and the same mystery of a child. We talked for a long time and, as soon as he thought he had understood, he beat a single clapperboard. If the team asked for another for technical problems, ok. Otherwise, the first good! It never happened to me again.
Angela Molina: “Keeping balance”
As he preserved the balance after the boom of That dark object of desire?
I admit that I felt a lost thread: everyone to offer – to me, young and unable to “no” – interesting characters, without even the time to reflect. So I decided: I’m going! I took a backpack and reached two friends in India. I remained months to enjoy nature, to know people, managing to return in touch with myself.
At that time they started writing her a lot in Italy: Gillo Pontecorvo for OgroMarco Bellocchio for The eyes, the mouthLina Wertmüller for A complicated intrigue of women, alleys and crimes … Why in ’91 accepted the miniseries Fantaghiòwhere does a knight play with a pizzetto?
For the text: it is inspired by one of the Italian fairy tales by Italo Calvino, author that I love. A Christmas I was at home with my still young children (Olivia, Mateo and Samuel, born from the wedding with the French filmmaker Hervé Tirmatche; Antonio and María Isabel, had by the Spanish entrepreneur Leo Blakstad, editor’s note). They looked at an episode of the script and Mateo screamed: “Mom why did you do this to me ???”. “What did I make you, love?”. “You have a beard! I look like Don Quixote, I don’t like it!”. I cried from laughing! “Because it’s my job,” I replied. “Because it is our bread, because in life we can afford bizarre.”
“My icons”

By the way: how did you manage to keep a large family together and the profession?
First of all, thanks to the example of my mother (we were eight, between brothers and sisters): I learned to organize me well, to delegate. And thanks to luck: my husband is fundamental. Although he is busy, he controls everything: if I go, he deals with him.
He will have a lot to hurry, given his rhythms from Workaholic…
Since childhood my way of conceiving life has been to intertwine it with work: they are one. If I find myself on pause from the set, I dedicate myself to the theater. Last season I played Los de Ahíby the Argentine director Claudio Tolcachir on the difficulties of four rider immigrants.
An important birthday is approaching on October 5th.
Oh yes, they will be 70! And the feeling that prevails is gratitude: to think about it, it is stunning to be here, considering that we never know what will happen the fraction of a following second … I just collaborated with Costa Gavras, who is 92 years old and with Liliana Cavani, his peer: mature people (Pure Buñuel was, That dark object It was his last film) are the sweetest, most lucid, smarter I have known. Their generosity is a life lesson for me.
Angela Molina and “white hair”

I always carry long hair … a blanket of Linus?
I only feel like this. As a young man, my brothers had long, my father and my mother liked them.
Unfortunately, the company would like, at a certain age, we cut them.
The company speaks too much, and says little. The only discriminant is that they are healthy. When mine began to whiten, I tried to use henna, as long as one day I noticed that the face was older than the hair, it seemed almost to wear a hat … I decided: let’s leave them free!
Winning move: it is considered an icon of Age diversity.
It is not a merit to age in harmony with yourself, continuing to live with intensity: it is the most natural thing about the earth! I come from a lineage of women who have supported the rhythm of existence. I know that when beauty leaves, it hurts, but there are other equally interesting phases, other connections with your body to be experienced. The problem is that, in this era, pre -established beauty codes are idolized.
