Jamie Gitten’s transfer from Borussia Dortmund to Chelsea has long been at home, now BVB confirms the upcoming change. The transfer fee for the 20 -year -old offensive player is said to be £ 55.5 million – equivalent to 64.3 million euros. The Englishman should sign a contract by 2032. However, the contractual details are still to be processed, as the black and yellow reported on Thursday evening. The Bundesliga club only confirmed the agreement of all parties. Managing Director Lars Ricken also spoke of a transfer that was “extremely valuable” for the club. BVB’s income exceeds the expenses after the departure and ensure more scope on the transfer market.
“The conversations with Chelsea were challenging, but ultimately we are glad that we can in all likelihood be able to realize and then have planning security,” said BVB sports director Sebastian Kehl. “Jamie is an excellent player who gave us a lot of fun. He now wants to take the next step in his career at Chelsea, and we wish him all the best and good luck.”
Gittens moved from the youth of Manchester City to Borussia Dortmund in 2020 and debuted for the professionals in April 2022 at the age of 17. Last season, he was one of the best BVB scorers with eight goals and four templates in 32 Bundesliga games, but slipped into the second member in the second half of the season under Niko Kovac. In 2012, the native of London played Gitten in the Chelsea youth for half a year before going to Reading.
Ricken: Gittens transfer would be “extremely valuable” for BVB
Dortmund’s managing director Ricken said: “Jamie Gitten’s career stands exemplary for the development of top talents at BVB. We discovered Jamie very early on, practically committed him to develop at our young talent in our young talent and also offered him at the very highest level at the professionals. Jamie has paid back the trust in him. In the English homeland, we only wish Jamie the very best for us. ”
The transfer to be paid would ensure that Gitten’s Christian Pulisic overtakes the most expensive BVB exits and took fourth place-the US international also moved to Chelsea in January 2019 for 64 million euros. With a view to the most expensive Bundesliga exports, the Englishman narrowly missed the leap into the top 10 on this sum. In the summer of 2025, only for Matheus Cunha (74.2 million, Man United) and Florian Wirtz (125 million, Liverpool) have been paid a higher transfer.
After Youssoufa Moukoko, which it moved to FC Copenhagen for 5 million euros, and Kjell Wätjen, who was awarded to Bochum for a year, Gittens will be the third professional who leaves BVB this summer. The income scratches after his transfer on the 70 million mark and will exceed the expenditure of EUR 57.3 million, so that those responsible have more freedom on the transfer market. So far, the money has been flowed into the loan, Yan Couto (20 million, Man City) and Daniel Svensson (6.5 million, Nordsjaelland) as well as the newcomers Jobe Bellingham (30.5 million, Sunderland) and Patrick Drewes (250,000, Bochum).
Chelsea made significantly higher investments this season. The expenditure of the blues will increase with that of Gitten’s commitment to over 240 million euros – the once more highest worldwide. It becomes the fourth season in which Chelsea cracks the 200 million mark. Gitten is after João Pedro (63.7 million, Brighton), Liam Delap (35.5 million, Ipswich), Estêvão (34 million, Palmeiras), Dário Essugo (22.3 million, Sporting), Mamadou Sarr (14 million, Strasbourg) and Kendry Páez, Independiente) the seventh new addition.
