The heat keeps Drenthe in his grip and that has consequences for the agenda of the coming days. While the KNMI Code has issued yellow and the National Heat Plan is in force, more and more organizers decide to offend their events.
With temperatures that crawl towards thirty degrees and the risk of heavy thunderstorms, organizers think it is irresponsible to let people play in the sun or come together. In this article we collect which events are canceled or which will continue.
The Brinkloop in Diever, which would take place on Tuesday 1 July, was canceled by the organization because of the heat. The annual running match is held every Tuesday evening in July and August, but due to the expected temperatures, the organization chooses not to let the first edition continue this year. The Sport Promotion Diever Foundation reports this on its website.
Participants in the Wandel4daagse of Holdert residential care center in Emmen also have to be patient. The hiking event for charity, which is organized by employees of Holdert, will not take place on Tuesday due to the heat. And even for Wednesday it is questionable whether you can walk, the organization will make a decision on Tuesday. So it seems to go on Thursday and Friday.
The ‘Residents in the air in’ project that would take place on Wednesday 2 July at the watchtower in the De Onanden nature reserve, has also been canceled. The initiative, intended for people with disabilities from the municipalities of Noordenveld and Tynaarlo, offers participants the opportunity to view the nature reserve with a platform from a great height.
Due to predicted heavy thunderstorms and for the safety of the participants, the organizing parties, including the municipalities and Natuurmonumenten, decided to cancel the event. They still want to organize the project in September.
Anyone who wants to cool down in one of the many swimming pools that Drenthe is rich should pay attention. Both the large Rietplas and the small Rietplas near Emmen are closed due to blue -green algae. Whoever goes swimming or water sports run the risk of skin irritation and stomach and intestinal complaints.
The Hoornseplas at Eelderwolde is also closed, here you run a great chance of swimming itching. Swimmer’s itch is caused by larvae of the flatworm. The parasites end up in the water via bird poop, after which they nestle in snails. Then they can also crawl into human skin, and that causes skin irritation. People suffer from itching and red bumps, which can take three weeks.
For the time being there are no other cancellations known in Drenthe. It is therefore possible that some events will continue in the coming days, but organizers will keep an eye on it and can still decide to take measures.
