The Regulation for the Reimbursement of Substances-related occupational diseases (TSB scheme) has been expanded by three new diseases on 1 July. The TSB scheme is for people who have fallen ill through exposure to hazardous substances at work. Since 2023, this scheme has been offering patients a shorter and faster route to recognizing their occupational disease.

The TSB scheme was already available for people with allergic professional asthma, lung cancer by asbestos and CSE (painter’s disease). There will be added on July 1, 2025:

  • Nose (sinus) cancer due to wood fabric. This disease can be caused by inhalation of wood fabric (for example during the processing of wood) and when making plywood and chipboard.
  • silicosis (irreparable damage to the lungs due to inflammatory reactions). This disease can be caused by inhalation of Respirabel Kristallijn Silica (Silica for short) during the processing of natural stone, brick, composite stone, concrete and cement.
  • Lung cancer through Silica. This disease is also caused by inhalation of respirable crystalline Silica.

In addition to the expansion, some changes are also made to the protocols to increase the chance of award. Because of these adjustments there is more room for customization. For example, the calculation has been adjusted for lung cancer by asbestos, so that a patient meets the threshold value faster.

People whose application was previously rejected because the relationship between the disease and the work was not clear enough according to the old protocols, can once again apply for an allowance. The people to whom this applies have received a letter from the Social Insurance Bank (SVB). Please note: a new application does not always mean that the relationship between exposure to a substance and the disease is now clear enough. For people who have been rejected for another reason, it makes no sense to make a new application.

The one -off allowance for a patient who suffers from an occupational disease is more than 25,000 euros.
