Ten years ago, Elisabeth Kappaurer made her debut in the World Cup. Now the Austrian ends her career – with an emotional statement.

In October 2015, the Austrian Elisabeth Kappaurer started for the first time in the World Cup. Since then, the ski racer has driven many races. According to the International Ski Association, she contested her last in November last year. Now it ends after several injuries, as Ski Austria announced.

Kappaurer explained emotionally: “This decision was anything but easy for me and was a long process. After all, skiing was my great passion and will always stay. After all the injuries, I kept trying to fight back, and most of the time I succeeded. During the last rehabilitation and preparation phase for the coming season, I noticed that I can no longer achieve the highest level, at the front, at the front to be able to get involved. “

She added: “That is why it is now time to listen to the signals of my body and open a new chapter in my life.” Kappaurer completed 47 World Cup races and reached a place among the top 15 ten times. On Instagram, the 31-year-old also posted a series of photos.

On the first snapshot you can see Kappaurer how she stands on a snowy road in a thick snaps, ski skirts and colorful children’s skiing. The Austrian ski racer wears a warm hat with a pompom and smiles cheerfully into the camera – a moment full of childhood memories and joy in winter sports. You can show more pictures with teammates in action, but also in the hospital for injuries.

She wrote: “Well, sometimes the smartest decisions are also those who hurt the most. I don’t lie when I say that it was the most difficult decision of my life and that I had a lot of courage and tears to meet them. But I am ready to finally write these words: I’m done.”

She explained: “Ready with the pain, finished with tears and fears and ready to convince other people (and sometimes even myself) of something that my body cannot endure.” She also thanked her companions and received encouragement for her new phase of life.
