Society stands for large tasks that affect many people. That requires something from the government, provinces, municipalities and water boards and the people who work there. Minister Judith Uitermark of the Interior and Kingdom Relations (BZK) therefore presents an action agenda that must ensure a more service -serving, effective, recognizable and democratic government.

Judith Uitermark: “Good governance means, among other things, a government that listens to people, does what it promises, provides performance, and gives more room and trust to citizens, professionals and entrepreneurs. Who takes the world of people as a starting point for thinking and acting. That requires a working method in all layers of the government and for good cooperation and decision -making.”

Government, provinces, municipalities and water boards, have been working together on better public administration for some time. However, various tasks require permanent commitment and attention. Consider ensuring a good balance between ambitions, tasks, resources and implementing power of municipalities. With extra money in the Spring Memorandum, a solution was found there for the coming years, it is now up to rich and municipalities together to think about the period thereafter. Attention also needs to be needed for the role of the region, and the conversation about which task is true. In addition, there must be sufficient policy freedom for municipalities. All this also has consequences for politics and democracy; More tasks can lead to a higher workload of councilors and aldermen. And residents have less insight into what they actually vote for.

Actions for a serviceable, effective, recognizable and democratic government

The minister announces various actions to work on these tasks. First of all in the field of ‘a serviceful government’, which listens to residents. The commitment is, for example, the better use of signals from people when making policy. Work is also being done on the accessibility and accessibility of government -wide services. Among other things by setting up government -wide counters where people can arrange their affairs. In the meantime, these types of counters have been set up at 28 locations.

When working on ‘an effective government’, the focus is on the feasibility of policy. A condition for this is good inter -administrative cooperation, so that co -authorities are involved in time making policy. Among other things, the governments consultation has been intensified for this. Furthermore, the feasibility test decentralized authorities will play a greater role. Naturally, attention is also paid to available finances.

When 3rd is used for ‘a recognizable government’, where it is about tasks being picked up by the right government layer. Specific attention is paid to the role of the region, which is picking up more and more tasks while it is further out of citizens and democratic decision -making. The minister therefore works on a new policy framework for decentral government and a vision on regional cooperation.

Finally, the minister focuses on a stronger ‘democratic government’, with representatives who can do their work well. The commitment includes reducing their workload, attractiveness of office and good support of Court of Auditors and Cliffies.
